UCAR

Dear Colleagues,

As May comes to a close, Memorial Day is upon us, with a three-day holiday weekend often celebrated with barbecues, the Boulder Creek Festival, and other activities with family and friends. I hope you have a chance to relax and enjoy the company of those close to you this weekend. As a kid growing up in Milwaukee, I distinctly remember going to the cemetery on Memorial weekend with aunts, uncles, and cousins as an extended family reunion to remember our grandparents.

I also ask that we all take a moment to think of those with family and friends who have served or continue to serve in the armed forces, for whom Memorial Day is a time of pride, honor, remembrance, and sadness - grieving those who have lost their lives in the service of our country. For many, this is another holiday without loved ones - family barbecues with missing parents, siblings, sons and daughters, and close friends. I offer my condolences to any of our colleagues at UCAR who have lost family and friends, and hope that loved ones currently serving overseas are soon home safe.

With my best wishes to all of you for a safe holiday weekend.
