Katy Putsavage serves as the diversity, equity, and inclusion coordinator for UCAR. She holds a doctorate in anthropology and a master’s in museum studies from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Her research examined the creation of cultural identities during periods of migration and diaspora in the American Southwest. While at CU, Katy also worked with Affinity Arts to engaging in social justice initiatives through the use of improv theater.
Katy started her career at the National Museum of the American Indian where she collaborated with indigenous governments and peoples on community-based care practices of museum objects. Most recently, Katy was an Assistant Professor at Eastern New Mexico University in the Department of Anthropology and Applied Archaeology. At ENMU, she worked to create curriculum that focused on cross-cultural communications, fostered a deeper understanding of systematic forms of oppression, and developed formal and informal mentorship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.
