Each year we select up to six undergrads or graduate students to accompany UCAR leadership to Washington, D.C.
Members of the UCAR Board of Trustees and the UCAR President's Advisory Committee on University Relations (PACUR) will be your hosts and guides for the unique opportunity.
In Washington, you will have the chance to visit Capitol Hill and meet members of Congress and their staffs and attend a special briefing by Hill staffers on how Congress works. You will also sit in on briefings from senior leadership in areas of weather, water, and climate.
If your essay is selected, UCAR will cover round-trip travel expenses from your location to Washington, including the flight, three nights in a hotel, and per diem for meals and incidental expenses.
Application essay question
The second page of the application form (link below) includes a 500-word essay question. We suggest preparing this in advance of filling out the form. The question is:
What do you think is the most important thing for policymakers to know about the atmospheric and related sciences?
Submissions for the 2018 Hill Visits closed March 23, 2018. Watch later in the fall for our application announcement for the 2019 visits.
