More informationDeadlines Submissions after the deadline has passed When you submit an announcement or classified ad after the 4:15 p.m. deadline, your post will be reviewed at the end of the following business day; your post will begin appearing on the Web immediately after approval (or later if you have selected a later start date). However, it will not appear in the Daily Announcements e-mail until the following morning, i.e., two business days after submission (or later for later start dates). Corrections after the deadline has passed If you've discovered a significant error in a message scheduled to go out tomorrow and it's after 4:15 p.m., you can still edit or delete the posting. This will prevent the faulty message from going out over e-mail; your edited announcement or classified will appear in the Daily Announcements within two business days after submission. Contact Every post must include a contact person's name, phone extension, and e-mail address. This information will appear in a paragraph at the end of your announcement or classified. For example:
The Web version of your post will include a hot link for the e-mail address you supply. If you want to list more than one person to contact, enter the primary contact here in Step 2, and include the secondary contact(s) in the text of the announcement or classified (Step 3).Title and text Use initial capitalization in your title rather than all caps or sentence style. Avoid using line breaks (hard returns), except to create paragraphs. Instead of tabs we suggest using spaces so that the e-mailed version will align properly. Because some e-mail platforms cannot display nonstandard characters, we strongly recommend that you use the standard set of ASCII characters only. Most nonstandard characters (such as the tilde in El Niño) will appear in the Web version and html-capable e-mail, but to reach the widest audience, we suggest you stick to the ASCII set, even if nonstandard characters look fine in your preview and e-mail receipt. Related Web Page In announcements The URL you supply will appear at the end of your announcement in both the e-mail and Web versions, as part of the contact information. For example:
Listing the URL here in Step 4 is the only way to generate a live Web link; URLs listed in the text (Step 3) will appear as text only. In classifieds You may list a personal Web site with your classified ad. Related Web pages for classifieds must not reside on UCAR servers. See the guidelines for classifieds. Timing Start date is the date you would like your announcement or classified to appear (once only) in the e-mailed Daily Announcements. Your message will also begin appearing on this Web site on the start date. End date is the date your announcement will cease appearing on this Web site as a Previous Announcement and will be moved to the site's archives. Since classifieds are not archived, your ad will no longer appear on the Web after the end date you specify. It is not possible to edit the start date after an announcement has already appeared in the e-mailed Daily Announcements. To re-issue the same announcement on a future date, please copy and paste the relevant information into a new announcement with the start date you want. A simple way to issue a reminder of your event on the day it takes place is to post it to the Calendar.
