Please join the NCAR Library on Wednesday, November 11 for an artists' reception
highlighting the works of two of our very own - Carlye Calvin and Jamaica Jones.
Carlye, the UCAR photographer, is best known for her images of storms, clouds, and
scientists roaming unfriendly terrain. In this new show, she shows off a more colorful side
with nostalgic images taken along Route 66.
Complimenting the photographs is a collection of jewelry by Jamaica Jones. Once a
professional jewelry designer, Jamaica creates delicate works from vintage glass, vintage
lucite, crystal and sparkling gems.
In keeping with the Route 66 theme, we will celebrate this new show with root beer floats and
pie between 3 and 4 pm on Wednesday, November 11.
For more information, contact Jamaica Jones at ext. 2674, jamaica@ucar.edu.

Title: Air Pollution Simulation with gridMathematica
ABSTRACT: In the first part of this talk are discussed the
mathematical formulation for 2D and 3D air pollution models, two
types of simulation of the chemical processes (with ODE's and QSSA),
several spatial discretization schemes with their grids and
anisotropies, a Crank-Nicholson time stepping scheme and related
spatial operator approximation, and boundary conditions. In the
second, programming part of the talk two types of parallelization
are discussed: in pseudo domains and physical domains. The object-
oriented design and implementation of the data feeding is also
described.

NCAR and EcoArts Connections Present
Visualizing Climate Change:
The Work of GHG Photos
September 17, 2009 - December 31, 2009
Named after the scientific shorthand for “greenhouse gases” the
photographers of GHG Photos have traveled the world to document the
causes and effects, as well as the attempts to mitigate and adapt to a
changing climate. Visualizing Climate Change brings together the work
of the handful of photographers who have dedicated the last couple
years of their life to illustrating the changing climate. The images
capture a range of subjects including forest fires, floods, glacial
retreat, sea level rise, arctic habitat loss, and a myriad of other
effects the world is experiencing.
The show was designed by GHG Photos with the Henry Gregg Gallery and
premiered at the NY Photo Festival. It features the work of Gary
Braasch, Ashley Cooper, Benjamin Drummond, Peter Essick, Steve
Kazlowski, and Joshua Wolfe.
For more information, contact Linda Carbone at ext. 1185, lcarbone@ucar.edu.
