WCSU is seeking an Assistant Professor of Physics, Astronomy, and Meteorology for a one-year, special appointment beginning in Fall 2004. A tenure-track position may subsequently become available.
The PAM Department offers a B.S. degree in Meteorology with track options in Theoretical Meteorology and Operational Meteorology/Weathercasting, as well as the B.A. degree in Earth and Planetary Sciences: Astronomy option, the B.S. degree in Secondary Education: Earth Science, and minors in physics, astronomy and earth science. The department contains the Meteorological Studies and Weather Center, which is an operational forecasting center serving a variety of clients in the region. The Center has a collection of modern Intel-based desktop computers loaded with an Internet browser and Microsoft Office. Additional software allows full XWindows access to one of the Center's primary modeling computers, a high-end DEC Alpha. For more sophisticated modeling and visualization, there are four Sun Blade 150 workstations running GNU tools and Vis5D visual modeling and animation. Fortran and NCAR graphics is installed on all servers. GNU C/C++ is available on all of the Sun workstations. For presentation layout, there are two high-end Power Macintosh computers running Quark XPress.
This is a full-time teaching position with a load of 12 credit hours per semester including a one-year sequence of Atmospheric Thermodynamics & Dynamics Mesoscale Meteorology and Senior Research. Teaching other meteorology courses, such as Introductory Meteorology, Atmospheric Physics, and Geophysical Hydrodynamics, as well as contributing to the Department's offerings in earth science, may also be part of the teaching load.
Beginning in the fall of 2005, the department will be moving all of its facilities into a new $42 million state of the art science building.
