Sign up for 2007 Junior Faculty Forum
The NCAR Early Career Scientists Assembly (ECSA) is pleased to announce this year's Junior Faculty Forum, sponsored by the NCAR Advanced Study Program. The forum will take place 9-11 July in Boulder. The objective is to bring together junior faculty and early career NCAR scientists (ECSA members) to discuss select topics in the geosciences. This year's topics are:

  • Geophysical and statistical challenges in detection/attribution of regional climate change
  • Coupling terrestrial and atmospheric water dynamics to improve predictability in a changing environment
The forum is open to nontenured faculty at U.S. universities, with preference given to those within five years of their first professorial academic appointment. In addition to promoting scientific discussion, an intended goal of the forum is to encourage development of professional relationships between ECSA members and faculty at UCAR institutions. Some travel support will be available for participants.

Application deadline: 20 April

Spanish-language version of COMET MetEd site now online
A new Spanish version of the COMET's MetEd Web site, MetEd en espaņol, has been officially launched. It mirrors the English language site, providing full descriptions of all available COMET modules, webcasts, courses, and case studies. It also provides Spanish language menus for navigation and Spanish versions of all MetEd announcements and product descriptions. Modules translated into Spanish are presented at the top of the page for easy access, and all module lists include clear indications of the language of each module. Using "English" and "Spanish" buttons, users can switch languages dynamically from any MetEd page.

MetEd en espaņol also includes a new Spanish Resource page, accessed from the RESOURCES menu. This page includes links to relevant materials in Spanish, such as bilingual and monolingual dictionaries and glossaries (including specialized topics, such as meteorology and hydrology) and a variety of other useful sites.

New from COMET: SPoRT Center webcast
A new COMET webcast introduces the SPoRT Center, a joint NASA and National Weather Service (NWS) project to provide unique NASA data sets to several NWS forecast offices and to evaluate their usefulness and impact on forecast operations. Gary Jedlovec (NASA) provides a description of the SPoRT Center and examples of its collaborations with NWS offices. The webcast also demonstrates use of MODIS data, AMSR-E derived products, and lightning flash density product applications.
