New chair for CCSM
Peter Gent (NCAR) is the new chair of the Scientific Steering Committee for the Community Climate System Model (CCSM), effective 1 July. The committee provides science leadership for CCSM, oversees working groups, and coordinates model definition, development, and experiments. Please feel free to contact Peter if you have questions or feedback related to the overall management of CCSM.

CCSM Scientific Steering Committee

NCAR/SCD solicits large requests for computational resources
NCAR's Scientific Computing Division invites university researchers with NSF awards to submit requests for projects needing more than 900 general accounting units (GAUs). Allocations may be used on bluesky (an IBM Power 4 cluster) or lightning (a 256-processor Linux cluster). Allocations may be given for the life of the NSF project. The deadline is 29 August. Requests for 900 GAUs or less can be submitted at any time.

ESSL's new director
Guy Brasseur (director, Max Planck Institute for Meteorology) will join NCAR in January 2006 to direct the Earth & Sun Systems Laboratory. Guy served as director of NCAR's Atmospheric Chemistry Division from 1990 to 2000. Annick Pouquet will continue as acting ESSL director through the end of 2005.
