Geosciences collaboratory: AGU town hall and workshop report
A final report on the High Performance Computing in the Geosciences Workshop, held at NCAR in September, is available online at the URL below.
To discuss the concept of a geosciences collaboratory, a town-hall session will take place on Monday, 11 December, at the fall meeting of the American Geophysical Union. The session will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the San Francisco Marriott's Nob Hill Room. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the outcomes of the September workshop and to engage in open discussion about plans for implementation of the collaboratory.

NCAR installs 12-teraflop IBM supercomputer
NCAR's Computational and Information Systems Laboratory is installing a new IBM supercomputer, blueice, which has a peak speed of 12 teraflops (12 trillion floating-point operations per second). Available to the university user community on 1 February 2007, blueice will nearly triple NCAR's sustained computing capacity.
Blueice is the first phase of a planned upgrade to NCAR's computational resources for the university and NCAR communities. An even more powerful computer will be installed in 2008, providing computing support for the geosciences until mid-2011.

Application deadline approaching for ASP postdoctoral fellowships
NCAR's Advanced Study Program is recruiting up to seven new postdoctoral fellows. The postdoctoral program provides an opportunity for recent Ph.D. scientists to pursue their research interests in atmospheric and related science. Applications and reference letters must be received no later than 5 January 2007 in order to be considered for fellowship awards beginning in 2007.
