What I do
I manage UCAR Communications, an office of eleven that serves as press office; creates print, video, and web products; and provides editorial and information services to UCAR and NCAR. I also manage the Image and Design Center, which offers design and printing services to the institution, and the Archives and Records. Since joining NCAR in 1984, I have worked to explain and promote our science in a variety of roles and through a broad number of products.
Background
My professional background is in newspaper reporting, magazine writing and editing, and book publishing. After working at Abelard-Schuman and R.R. Bowker in New York, I moved to London, where I created mass-market nonfiction books for Paul Hamlyn and wrote for the London Times Educational Supplement and other publications. When first in Boulder, I wrote articles for New Society, the Times Educational Supplement, and other British and American magazines and newspapers and edited publications for the Western Interstate Council for Higher Education and Westview Press.

Personal Interests
- I study voice and perform in small ensembles and choruses, occasionally venturing into solo work for friendly audiences.
- I love the randomness and richness of travel—the lives, languages, streets, foods, landscapes of other peoples. And especially I like hanging out on the terrazzo in Spoleto watching the swallows and listening to the church bells.
