TOSTs
(THORPEX Observing System Tests) are primarily aimed at testing future observing strategies, such a refining measurements from future satellite systems or new delivery techniques. A Pacific TOST was conducted primarily by US participants during February and March 2003 in conjunction with NOAA's Winter Storm Reconnaissance Program. The following links deal with this campaign.
TReCs
(THORPEX Regional Campaigns) are designed to also test the impact of new observing systems and strategies on operations forecasts. The 1st TReC is taking place over the North Atlantic. This larger effort represents a collaboration between scientists within North America, the European Union and Asia. Participation is from the research and operational communities. The following links deal with this Atlatic TReC (ATReC) effort.
