Help Me Find In-depth Information on a Subject

The Library offers abstract services where you can find references with abstracts for articles on a topic, by an author, or contained in a specific journal. Full text to an article in the abstract or index is available where the Library subscribes.

The process for finding current articles is the same as finding in-depth articles. All these databases contain references to the most current papers as well as to historical ones. The search results are listed by default in descending order with the most recent articles listed first. Each database must be searched separately.

The differences between these resources can be seen in the number of years and subjects covered and in the techniques for searching.

Web of Science, 1972 – present
Indexes articles only in peer reviewed journals and some open access journals in the physical and social sciences. Includes the number of times papers are cited

Meteorological and Geoastrophysical Abstracts (MGA), 1975 – Present
Includes references for all types of literature in the atmospheric sciences

Science Direct
Search within Elsevier online books and journals. Many journals go back to Volume 1, Issue 1.

IEEExplore, 1913 - present
Contains engineering articles from IEEE journals and conferences

First Search, years covered varies with each database
Good for papers outside of the physical sciences: worldwide literature on geography, geology, and ecology (GeoBase), journal articles and reports in education (ERIC), catalogs of books and other materials in libraries worldwide (WorldCat), materials relating to all aspects of agriculture, forestry, and animal science (AGRICOLA), all subject areas (ArticleFirst).
