Welcome to the website for the 2006 Annual Meetings! We have a full week of activities and I hope that as many of you as possible will be able to join us. I want to point out a few items in particular: A. Invitations to an early career faculty member at your university. I hope you will take advantage of our invitation to bring an early career faculty member to the Annual Meeting this year so they can learn more about the programs at the national center. Please send us the name of the person, and we will send them the travel and meeting registration information. B. UCAR/NCAR orientation session is planned for 9:00 am on Tuesday, 10 October for faculty guests and interested others. And a luncheon for the early career faculty guests hosted by the NCAR Early Career Scientist Assembly will be held immediately following UCAR and NCAR program tours (see below) at 11:30 am. C. Pre-meeting tours on Tuesday morning. A number of NCAR and UCAR labs and programs are planning presentations and tours of their scientific facilities, and research and education activities on Tuesday morning before the Members Meeting from 9:30-11:30am. I hope you’ll be able to participate. Please note: We've added a tourof the aircraft facility immediately following the Members' meeting. Please sign up if you're interested. Please check the final agenda closer to the meeting date for locations of these events. D. The focus of the meeting itself this year is on the new UCAR strategic plan—UCAR 2020: A Strategic Outlook for the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research. We have break-out sessions planned for each of the eight strategic areas and invite your participation in shaping the implementation of that document. It promises to be a very interesting week, including the joint AMS/AGU Heads and Chairs Meeting on Thursday and Friday, 12-13 October, and I look forward to talking with all of you during some portion of it.
