Membership Committee Report

Memorandum

The Membership Committee met on 9 June to review the application materials from institutions renewing their Memberships and Affiliations with UCAR. The committee considered five Membership renewal applications, four Affiliate renewals, and one new Affiliate application.

One application for new Membership was received from the University of Houston, and one new application for Academic Affiliation was received from the Florida Institute of Technology. The site visit for the University of Houston was scheduled to take place after the Membership Meeting, thus the committee considered the report of the site visit team via email. There are normally no site visits made to affiliate applicants.

We recommend approval for all institutions reviewed; you, the Members, will vote on the UCAR Member new and renewal applications at the Annual Meeting. No vote is taken on the Academic Affiliate renewals; the Membership Committee approval completes their renewal process.

The committee also spent time streamlining the application procedures for new and renewal memberships and affiliations. The revised procedures will be posted on the Membership website within the near future. They are linked here for your information.

I want to thank the members of the committee for all of the work involved in reading the applications, writing the reports, and reviewing the procedures and making the site visit to Houston amid a heat wave and in the aftermath of Katrina: Rung Fu (Georgia Tech), Charles Lin (McGill U), Gudrun Magnusdottir (U California, Irvine), Jim Miller (Rutgers University), Terry Nathan (U California, Davis), Roger Pielke, Sr. (Colorado State U), David Smith (US Naval Academy), Chuck Wash (Naval Postgraduate School), and Don Wuebbles (U Illinois at Urbana-Champaign).
