The UCAR October Meetings are going ahead as planned.

Dear UCAR community members,

The tragic events of September 11 have caused deep sorrow to millions of people in this country and abroad, and our country is changed in ways we could never have predicted. Our hearts go out to all the victims and families who have been so deeply affected by the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington.

The sobering and somewhat vulnerable atmosphere in which we find ourselves makes it more difficult to focus on so many of the issues that absorbed us before. However, after assessing the situation over the past few days we have determined to proceed with plans for the upcoming October Meetings.

We will proceed with conducting regular UCAR business and with discussing the current UCAR, NCAR, and UOP program activities. This year's Forum will focus on the new NCAR and UCAR Education and Outreach Strategic Plans, with special emphasis on university linkages to research and education initiatives. Please take time to register for the break-out sessions on the Forum website.

I look forward to seeing you in a few weeks to discuss the work of our community in the years ahead. Please let us know if you have any questions about the meeting or about any other aspect of UCAR activities.
