1999 Race Results - Foot Race

Andrew Crook won for the 3rd year in a row, and reports being pleased with his first sub-8 minute time in 8 years. For 3rd place, Dave Albo posted a sub-9 minute time for the first time in 6 years, and comments "ow if only Andrew would contract a disease or get injured, I'd have a real chance. ;-)". Rick Katz reminds us that he won the first Up-the-Hill race in 1980 with a time of 7:54, but that his time has slowed over the years.

Janice Coen took 33 seconds off of her time of last year to win the women's division, and Betty Valent took off 44 seconds to improve her finish from 4th place to 2nd. NCAR/RAP newcomer Barb Middlebrook has this to say: "This is my first year here, and I think goofball events like this are what help keep the morale at NCAR high. I had a lot more fun at the Up the Hill Race than I usually do at some boring old company picnic. Of course, it's not all about fun -- there are some people who actually want to *win* the darn thing! So this is how we keep our famous competitive edge honed."
