Looking for articles on a particular subject and dont know which literature database to use? Perform a topic search across 14 of the Library's key databases by entering your terms in the search box on the Library's home page, http://www.ucar.edu/library. Your results will list the number of hits in each database along with the citations to papers. To refine your search or lookup an author, use the advanced search function. Format the author search with last name first, then initials, as in the example: Smith J or Smith JH. On the advanced search screen you have the ability to select various fields, enter a range of years, and read through a list of key databases to select the ones you want.

SPEAKER: Martyn Clark, CIRES and Center for Science and Technology Policy Research DATE: Friday, August 20, 2004 TIME: 2:00 p.m. LOCATION: David Skaggs Research Center, Room 3B504 TITLE: Ensemble Streamflow Forecasting in Snowmelt-Dominated River Basins ABSTRACT A common solution to the streamflow forecasting problem is to run a hydrologic model up to the start of the forecast period to estimate basin initial conditions, and then run the model into the future, with an ensemble of forecast inputs, to produce an ensemble of forecasted streamflow. The River Forecast Centers in the United States have used this "Ensemble Streamflow Prediction" (ESP) method for many years. The skill of forecasts produced using the ESP approach depends on uncertainties in (1) local-scale forecasts used to drive the hydrologic model, (2) the model's estimate of basin initial conditions, and (3) the hydrologic model itself. This presentation will summarize our recent research on all three aspects of the streamflow forecasting problem. REFRESHMENTS PROVIDED
