Would you like to read the current day edition of the Wall Street Journal from your desktop? The Library is considering a subscription plan that allows 25 individuals with their own login and password to access the current day plus a 30-day full text archive (85% of print edition). You would also be able to search for citations in the archives from 1979 to the present. Because stories are continually updated, the online article may not be the same as the print. If you would like to participate in this subscription plan, please contact Leslie Forehand, x8505, forehand@ucar.edu.

The Web Advisory Group (WAG) recommends that all employees upgrade their web browser to a recent standards-compliant version. Some popular examples include recent versions of Netscape 7, Mozilla 1.7, IE 6 for Windows, and Safari 1.2. Please contact a member of your computer support staff if you are running an older browser such as Netscape 4.x so you can be upgraded. If you continue to use an older browser, you will see worse bugs and display problems in the months and years to come since many web developers are taking advantage of enhancements in current browsers that do not display well or at all in older browsers. Additionally, older browsers pose certain security risks for users and for the organization. These risks not only include mechanisms for installing & retaining spyware easily, but may also include exploits that have a potential of running code locally on your machine. For these reasons, Netscape 4.x is no longer an officially supported web browser at UCAR. The WAG has heard from numerous employees who use Netscape Messenger 4.x as their email client and prefer it over the Netscape 7 email client. That choice is yours. The WAG simply recommends that you do your web browsing with a current web browser.
