As you plan for staffing needs during the upcoming months, please remember the Casual Pool. We have several Casual Pool employees who are completing current UCAR assignments and will become available in the next 3-4 weeks. Casual Pool employees work within our divisions and programs to fill in for employees who are out of the office due to illness or vacation. They are paid for the hours they work and are not eligible for health insurance and other benefits. By law, Casual employees can work only 1000 hours in one calendar year. Remember that the Casual Pool is not intended to substitute for use of temporary agencies. The Casual Pool is ideal for special projects, workshops/conferences, and/or planned staff absences. It is our intention to utilize these employees in various groups so that they can become familiar with UCAR policies and procedures, which will then increase their value to the organization. If you anticipate a staffing need during the next few months, contact Nancy Wade in HR to obtain a Request for Casual Pool form.
For more information, contact Nancy Wade at 8717, nwade@ucar.edu.

The Ron Fletcher movements are a form of Pilates work. Pilates is a cross-training, better biomechics towards movement in sports or related towards work. It enhances better posture, strengthening of breathing apparatus, enhances endurance without the aerobic activity, etc. One of the goals is to have complete movement in the spine, with no blockages and tight areas from bad posture. We also work with towels to open up the chest from too much bending over a computer terminal. More information on Pilates/Fletcher can be found at: http://www.ronfletcherwork.com http://www.ucar.edu/communications/fletcher/ The Pilates/Fletcher classes are at Foothills in the FL1 Fitness Room on Thursdays from 5:00 to 6:00 PM except for holidays. Trudy Zahler is the certified instructor. No prior experience is necessary. We work in bare feet and wear clothes that reveal our posture in the mirrors, but any comfortable clothes are fine. The class is not aerobic. The class is open to NCAR staff, visitors, family members, etc. The cost is $10 per class or $35 for 4 not neccessarily consecutive classes. The first class is free. Classes are held most Thursdays from 5 to 6 PM. To see the schedule of upcoming classes, subscribe to the Fletcher e-mail list by contacting Barbara Emery at x1596 (emery@ucar.edu), or come to class (next one is Thurs Dec 4).
