FROM: Tom Windham SUBJECT: Call for mentors for SOARS summer 2002 Program "As many of you know, SOARS has been recognized through the awarding of one of the 2001 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring! A great deal of the credit for SOARS success goes to the participation of the NCAR, UOP and UCAR scientists and staff who have contributed their time and energy to the mentoring of the proteges. I thank all of you who have participated as mentors and encourage all UCAR staff to consider participating in SOARS as a mentor. From discussions with many of you and the proteges themselves, I know this has been an enriching experience for all." - Rick Anthes I share Rick's gratitude and invite all UCAR, NCAR and UOP staff to volunteer as a science/technical research, scientific writing, or community mentor for the summer 2002 SOARS program, 31 May - 9 August. Here is a brief overview of the mentor types and their roles. The Desktop Systems Advisory Group (DSAC) strongly recommends against the purchase of the HOME edition of Microsoft XP. The Windows XP HOME edition cannot network with UCAR's Windows network, while the Windows XP PROFESSIONAL edition can. Check with your System Administrators before making a purchase to determine your division's support policy on the Windows XP Operating System. Please email questions to Desktop Systems Advisiory Committee, dsac@ucar.edu.
