The Web Engineering Group has recently acquired and configured an Inktomi Search engine (formerly known as "Ultraseek") for use by all of UCAR. The new search engine is faster than previously used ht://dig engine and offers natural language search capabilities, customizable user interface, include/exclude at the site, directory, or document level. In cooperation with UCAR Corporate Affairs office, a search page that utilizes Inktomi Search engine was created for UCAR/NCAR/UOP web site. Please take a look at http://www.ucar.edu/ucar/search.html to see how the search engine can be incorporated in to a web site. One of the advantages of this UCAR wide search engine is that individuals, divisions, or programs can use this search engine within their own web sites. Search pages that point at this search engine can be configured to only return hits that correspond to hits on specific webservers or sites. Full announcement, documentation pointers, and an example can be accessed at http://webdoc.ucar.edu/search.html

THIS WEEK AT UCAR's announcement posting form allows you to post
multiple announcements about your topic in advance, all at one
sitting. So for example, if you have announcements about an event
such as:
Ice seminar on February 28th!
(posted a month in advance, gives basic date, time, location,
description, presenters names, etc.)
Ice seminar presenters added
(posted two weeks in advance, just got Joe Blow from
Wassamatta U for a special talk)
Ice seminar program schedule
(posted three days early so people can plan their day)
Ice seminar reminder
(posted the day before to jog people's memories, includes a
check-list of material to bring with you)
Now the sneaky trick is that you can post all of these announcements
when you post that first one. You just set the "begin" and "expire"
dates on the form. So for the example above, you might post using
following dates (assuming each post contains only new information):
Announcement title begins expires
----------------------------- ------ -------
Ice seminar on February 28th! Jan 31 Feb 28
Ice seminar presenters added Feb 14 Feb 28
Ice seminar program schedule Feb 26 Feb 28
Ice seminar reminder Feb 27 Feb 28
When each announcement's begin date arrives, it shows up in the morning
email that day, and the rest of the set remains available in the
"Previous Announcements" on the Web until after their expire date, when
they all get archived.
If later announcements include all the information from the earlier
announcements, you should expire the older ones before the newer ones
come up, to reduce redundancy and confusion. In that case, you'd use
the dates:
Announcement title begins expires
----------------------------- ------ -------
Ice seminar on February 28th! Jan 31 Feb 13
Ice seminar presenters added Feb 14 Feb 25
Ice seminar program schedule Feb 26 Feb 26
Ice seminar reminder Feb 27 Feb 28
You can reduce your work in this case by doing the following:
1. Post your first announcement, going through the whole form.
2. a. Use your "back" button to go back to the first page of the form
which should still contain your data.
b. Update your announcement title.
c. Add your new data to the announcement body for the second
announcement.
d. Change the "begin" and "expire" dates.
e. Post.
3. Repeat until all of your announcements are posted.
4. READ YOUR RECEIPT EMAILS CAREFULLY to make sure everything is as
you want it to be, with particular attention to the announcement
titles (remember: no duplications) and the begin and expire dates.
As always, let me know if you have any questions.

On-Site Mammograms Thursday, 14 December 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. FL3-1067 Pre-registration required 15-minute appointments provided Breast cancer affects one out of every eight women, so it is critical for women to understand the risks of breast cancer and the benefits of early detection. The UCAR Wellness Advisory committee is proud to provide an on-site mammography-screening program to make obtaining a mammogram as convenient as possible. The screening is available to UCAR staff, their spouses and retirees. The screenings will be performed by the SALLY JOBE MAMMOGRAPHY CENTER (formerly RADIOLOGY & IMAGING ASSOCIATES OF DENVER/MAMMOGRAPHY CENTER). The Sally Jobe Mammography Center is certified by the FDA and accredited through the American College of Radiology. The exams are performed in a private, caring, one-on-one environment. The mammogram is done on a dedicated film-screen mammography unit. Once completed, the films are taken to their labs for interpretation by a board- certified radiologist. After the examination and analysis your listed physician will receive the results, evaluate the information, and advise you accordingly. Sally Jobe Mammography Center does not offer any diagnosis; this is a screening process only. Women who have had previous mammograms with positive results are encouraged to continue working with their current physician and not attend this screening. Breast cancer is a disease of change, which is why current mammograms are compared with previous screenings. The radiologist will compare breast anatomy from your last screening to detect subtle interval changes that may have occurred. If you have had a mammogram before, you can bring your most current films with you on the day of the screening. If you prefer, your previous provider may mail the films to: Sally Jobe Mammography Center 155 Cook Street, Suite 100, Denver, Colorado 80206 (303) 333-6375. A comparison analysis will be completed and your old films will be returned to the previous provider of service. If Radiology & Imaging/Mammography Center performed your last mammogram, please provide this information on the day of your screening, as Sally Jobe Mammography will be able to access these records. COST AND INSURANCE INFORMATION The cost for the screening is $125, which may be covered by your insurance. Please bring your insurance card with you to the screening for verification. The mammogram results are sent directly to the physician you indicate at the time of the screening. PacifiCare EPO (Option 1) If you are over age 35 and have not had a mammogram in the past year, the cost will be covered 100%. If you are under age 35, please consult your primary care physician. PacifiCare may cover mammograms for those under age 35 based on family history. Sally Jobe Mammography will send billing information directly to PacifiCare and the screening results to your primary care physician. PacifiCare PPO (Option 2) The screening is covered 100%. Sally Jobe Mammography will send billing information directly to PacifiCare and the screening results to your current care physician. Kaiser HMO (Option 3) Because Kaiser has the proper equipment to perform mammograms within its own facilities, Kaiser will NOT cover services rendered by any other providers. Please contact Cheryl Cristanelli, ext. 8708, cherylc@ucar.edu if you would like more information regarding the program or to schedule an exam for yourself or a family member. Please be assured that confidentiality will be maintained. Early detection could save your or a loved one's life.
