1. Proposal to Move NETS and Telecommunications into a Single
Management Function:
Marla Meehl presented a proposal to merge NETS, which is currently
in SCD, and Telecommunications, which is currently in Finance and
Administration. The President's Council agreed that the merger
makes sense. Marla also presented information on a potential
future technology for UCAR, Voice over Internet Provider (VOIP).
The President's Council did not approve implementing this
technology. Any implementation decision will require President's
Council approval.
2. Indirect Program Presentation - F&A Information Technology:
Rebecca Oliva presented the F&A IT program as part of the
continuing series of indirect program presentations to the
President's Council.
3. Indirect Program Presentation - Corporate Affairs:
Jack Fellows, Susan Friberg, Lucy Warner and Cindy Schmidt
presented the elements of the Corporate Affairs activity.
4. Health Insurance 2001:
Bob Roesch discussed the recent price increases in the medical
insurance programs (information on this has been sent to all
employees). Effective January 1, 2001, the Boulder Medical
Center has announced that they will no longer take Pacificare
EPO insurance. They will continue to take PPO insurance.
5. Status of Bond Proceeds and Projected Expenditures:
Dan Wilson presented the current status of the 1999 bond proceeds.
Due to savings on some projects and other projects either being
cancelled or paid for by program funds, additional funds have
become available. Dan will put out a call to UCAR corporate, NCAR
and UOP to solicit requests for bond funds. He will present a
summary of these requests to the President's Council in January.
Tim Killeen asked for bond funds totaling $120,000 to purchase a
Sun server for use in HAO in support of the Space Physics and
Aeronomy Research Collaboratory (SPARC). His request was approved.
6. Status of Forward Swap:
Dan updated the President's Council on the current status of the
Forward-Starting Swap agreement. The Council concurred with
Dan's recommendation to keep the swap in place, in anticipation
of increasing interest rates. Dan will continue to closely
monitor the status.
7. Mesa Lab Utilities Refurbishment Project:
Tina Bogott updated the Council on the status of the Mesa Lab
Refurbishment Project and gave a detailed briefing on the Mesa
Lab Utilities Refurbishment Project. This project, expected to
begin in 2002, will be extensive and will require relocation of
Mesa Lab employees for some to-be-determined period of time.
The utilities refurbishment is absolutely necessary for the
continued viability of the Mesa Lab. The facility is now over
35 years old, and the utility systems are outdated and past
their expected operational life. Tina was asked to look at some
options for the dislocation and present them to the President's
Council in January.
We adjourned at 3:30 PM.

For those of you who ordered discounted lift tickets for Copper Mtn. or Winter Park, the tickets will arrive on Wednesday morning, 22 November. We did order a few extra tickets for both ski resorts, just in case anyone missed the deadlines. For questions about payment or purchasing any of the extra tickets, please e-mail me at mdonnell@ucar.edu. There has been some interest in purchasing bulk tickets from A-Basin and Loveland, but not quite enough for us to qualify for the discount yet. For more information on ticket prices for any of these resorts, please visit the EAC's website. Last but not least, Eldora has an excellent deal to offer us. We have the opportunity to purchase "Super Six" cards from them. These cards cost $99 and are good for 6 lift tickets. That's 16.50 per lift ticket! These are non-transferable cards, good on any day of the season. We are working on the logistics of ordering these tickets, being that they are non-transferable, but go ahead and give me an e-mail if you are interested in purchasing one!
For more information, contact Megan Donnelly at 8936,

While searching the Library's online catalog (http://www.ucar.edu/library) you can request to have a book or report sent to you. When you are looking at the record of the item you need click on "Request" and then click on "Place Holds" and enter your employee id. number or library assigned id. in the user id. field. At this point you are ready to click on "Place Request." This is a recommended and efficient ordering method unless you need same-day service, and it can be used to reserve or request any book or report title you find in the catalog, whether the item is on the shelf, checked out or on order.

Payroll reminds you that W-2 Forms for 2000 will be delivered through the U.S. Mail again this year. Please be sure that Human Resources has your correct address. Also, please double check that your name and Social Security number appear correctly on your personal information. This is also the time to check your W-4 status for 2001, and make any necessary updates. Be sure your latest W-4 has all your current information and that your name agrees with that on your current Social Security card. Please note: changing your address on your W-4 form will not automatically change your address in the Human Resources data base. Please notify Human Resources directly with any address changes. EAC Ski Deals - So Many Choices, So Little Time: The EAC has the opportunity to purchase bulk lift tickets from Copper Mtn., Loveland, and Winter Park. Buying bulk tickets from Copper Mtn., for example, would save an individual ticket holder $20 off the regular lift ticket price, and they are good on any day of the season. There are two catches, the first is that we would have to buy anywhere from 25 to 50 tickets at a time, depending on the resort. So, those of you who are interested would have to e-mail me as soon as possible at mdonnell@ucar.edu, with your requests for the number of tickets you would like, and for which resort so that we can place a ticket order with one or more of the resorts. The second catch is that we have a tentative deadline of 10 November (this Friday) to place an order with Copper Mtn. We have posted bulk lift ticket prices and regular lift ticket prices for the three resorts on our Web site (http://www.ucar.edu/eac/), and ask you to please visit our site for more information.
