Issues of interest to the BCHCI include education, the arts, affordable housing, environmental quality, the economy, neighborhoods, regional governance, and civility. This class will cover how to create scientific visualizations using NCL including contour plots, XY plots, maps in various projections, field flows, and multiple field overlays. All plots will display scientific data. How to simplify the visualization process using plot functions and resource files will be demonstrated. NCL visualizations have nine predefined color maps. Ethan will also demonstrate how to easily define and input your own favorite color maps. This one-hour class is open to all who care to attend. It is not necessary to have attended the previous NCL classes. Questions during the presentation are welcomed. This course is being given in the context of the SCD/CGD CSM processor collaboration. For more information on this project and NCL see the CSM project web page at: http://ngwww.ucar.edu/projects/csmproc/index.html For more information contact Bob Lackman, x1224, rll@ncar.ucar.edu. ************************************************************************ UNICOS CLASS by SCD staff Wednesday, 18 June 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. -- Mesa Lab, Damon Room A basic working knowledge of UNIX is a prerequisite for this class. If you are new to computing on NCAR's Cray computers, the UNICOS Orientation class can help quick-start your computing. The free, half-day class introduces you to the NCAR computing environment and covers the following topics: --NCAR hardware and access methods --Mass Storage System commands --cf77 and the cf90 compiling system --library considerations --NOS batch system --job accounting --graphics facilities --cdbx debugging --I/O optimization --CPU optimization Please register in advance by sending email to janie@ncar.ucar.edu or calling (303) 497-1288. Classes with less than five people signed up may be cancelled. ************************************************************************ FL FITNESS CENTER REMODELING The UCAR Wellness Advisory Committee (WAC) is planning to remodel the FL Fitness Center in FY97. This center is about 5 years old and over that time users have suggested rearranging the room to modify the traffic flow during the busy noon hour. Last year, the WAC moved the water fountain into the hallway to help address this issue. This was welcomed by some and lamented by others. Now we plan to rearrange the room by putting the equipment by the entrance door and putting the aerobics floor at the back of the room. Drawings of this room reconfiguration may be seen in the FL Fitness Center and, in the near future, on the WAC web site at http://www.ucar.edu//ucargen/groups/wellness/wellness.html Let WAC know what you think of the plan by sending email to WAC@ucar.edu or contacting any WAC member. ( A list of members is also on the web site.) During this process, rewiring of the Safety Shutdown circuit and air conditioning require equipment down time. We will be taking the systems off-line Saturday, May 31st at 7:00 a.m. All systems will be restored by 6:00 p.m. Foothills Lab and the UV building will be without telephone service while the telephone system is down. Pay phones are located in the east side of FL2. All incoming and long-distance service to UCAR North will be affected. Out-going local calls from UCAR North will not be affected. USWest modem lines at these sites will not be affected. All network traffic within, to, and from FL, UN, and UV will be down. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to call or send email. Thank you for your assistance.
