The Wellness Advisory Committee, the Maintenance Department, and Facilities Service Department announce the plans for the annual Spring Locker Cleanout. The purposes of this cleanout include: -- cleaning lockers inside and out, -- checking all mechanical parts of the locker to ensure it is safe and fully operational, and -- identifying lockers that are not in use and making them available for new users. The process requires all locker users in the FL, UN, and ML fitness centers and locker rooms to remove locks and personal items before the cleanout start time (see below). Locker users should leave the name tag or label on the lockers so they can reclaim the locker after the cleanout. Locks not removed will be cut off, any personal items will be bagged, and the name tag will be removed. These items can be claimed from Central Stores at ML and FL and from Jim Menghi at UN starting on the Monday following the cleanout. After the cleanout any lockers without a name tag or not tagged for Day Use Only are then available to any user on a first come, first serve basis. To claim a locker, place a tag or label on the locker which contains your name, phone extension, and email address. The dates and times for the locker cleanouts are listed below. Please make a note of them and pass this information on to any users who will be out of town on these dates. The community mentor's job is to help a student with a smooth transition to UCAR and the Boulder community. It is not a time-consuming or demanding job. An orientation session and mentoring workshop will be offered. Past years' community mentors had a very positive experience and most have agreed to serve again this year. Our need for additional mentors comes from having received additional funding to support new students. Doesken, Assistant State Climatologist Colorado Climate Center/Atmospheric Science Department/Colorado State University TITLE: "Our Crazy Climate--The Joy of Living in Colorado!" Wild windstorms on one side of town, freezing fog on the other, November tornadoes, hail by the truckful, July snowstorms, nagging drought interrupted briefly by frenzied floods, and 50 degree temperature fluctuations on calm, clear days as well as sunshine so bright that it hurts. Such is life in Colorado. Expect some surprises from both the weather and the speaker! The Ranch was established more than a century ago as a stately Western homestead with a sweeping view of the Rocky Mountains from Mt. Evans to Long's Peak. The Clubhouse at The Ranch has carefully preserved its early ranch structure with massive oak beams and thick adobe walls, reflecting its Western heritage. Dress is casual, and the banquet room and outdoor patio (fully enclosable in case of inclement weather) will be at our disposal. This will be the first banquet in recent memory for our chapter. Every effort has been made to make this event enjoyable to all, as well as affordable. Directions to The Ranch: The Ranch Country Club is located two miles west of Interstate 25 on 120th Avenue, high atop a hill at 120th Avenue and Tejon. Please RSVP by contacting Randall Collander, 497-5960, collande@fsl.noaa.gov or Wendy Abshire, 497-8477, abshire@comet.ucar.edu. Cost is $18 per person.
