Ralph Anderson, associated for 30 years with the Weather Bureau/ESSA/NOAA Weather Satellite program, explains how Tiros pictures were first used at the National Meteorological Center in the early 1960s. Loren Crow, pioneering consulting meteorologist recounts how the Strategic Air Command Global Weather Center at Offutt AFB came into being as well as his early experiences in the private sector forecasting weather for London trains. Vincent Lally, early NCAR associate, developer and long time advocate of constant pressure balloons, provides insight into current efforts to cross ballooning's last frontier: the round-the-world manned flight. UPCOMING MEETINGS: The MARCH meeting will be held at Radian International Corp. in Boulder on Wednesday the 12th at 7 pm. Mr. Gene Pfeffer will give a presentation entitled "Doppler Radar Lower Atmospheric Wind Profiling" and a tour and profiler demonstration at their facility. Our APRIL gathering will be a tour of Coors Field on Saturday the 5th at 3 pm (two days before the season home opener)! The tour will include the scoop on how they get their weather information as well as seeing parts of the ballpark the public doesn't get to see on game day. In the old days, it was simply called "working at home" for a few hours. Today it is more than that, a lot more. With the advent and proliferation of electronic communications tools it is increasingly easier, as well as more difficult, to efficiently "work at home." Some jobs and people fit quite well with the concept of remote working; others not so well or not at all. And, there are corporate policies and procedures governing remote working at UCAR. This seminar explores all the various issues, policies and procedures associated with remote working. The seminar is intended for both employees and managers. Employees can learn how to successfully structure and perform their work from remote locations. Managers can learn how to determine which jobs and which employees are best suited and how to successfully manage those employees. Discussion topics include: Overview of telecommuting Telecomuter tips Dealing with obstacles Determining which jobs and employees are best suited Remote working safety UCAR policies and procedures Performance evaluations For more information or to register, please contact Cheryl Cristanelli, ext. 8708 or email cherylc@ucar.edu. Supervisors/managers and their employees are encouraged to attend together. ************************************************************************ REMINDER: PICK UP YOUR "IMPERIAL TOMBS OF CHINA" TICKETS All the tickets ordered for the Imperial Tombs of China Exhibit are in.
