Paste the text of your announcement into the body of your email message, rather than appended as an attachment or enclosure. ************************************************************************ ART JUDGING SET FOR 11 FEBRUARY AT NCAR Artists will be selected for one-person shows at the NCAR on Tuesday, February 11. Those interested in submitting their work can register by calling 497-8606 or 497-8612 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The deadline for registration is Friday, February 7. There is no registration fee. Selected artists will display their work for the months of May through September in NCAR's Mesa Laboratory second-floor gallery (one-month shows) or cafeteria (two-month shows). Judging will be based on three, representative samples of the artist's work. Space limits the NCAR art exhibits to pieces that can be hung. ************************************************************************ NCAR SKI TEAM RESULTS This report was filed by Ned Chamberlain The NCAR Ski Team is well into the season having raced at two events. The first race at Copper Mountain is traditionaly a warm up event but the NCAR team performed well without several regulars and finished fourth in their league. The second race at Steamboat Springs took place right after New Years. The team finished third despite for some a hare raising drive over Rabbit Ears Pass the night before (couldn't help the pun). Two racers spent the night in Hot Sulpher Springs after deciding it was too dangerous to continue driving. Two other racers are convinced they were following the snowplow that was reported to have gone off the road and over the side. In any case the results of the first two races are very promising considering last year a good team finished fourth in only one race. The Steamboat race was highlighted by a gold medal for Katherine Noll wife of Frank Bryan in CGD. Katherine had the fastest time for all women competing that day in our league. If you're interested in finding out more about the NCAR Ski Team contact Ned Chamberlain x8766 or chamberl@ucar.edu. ************************************************************************ EAC DISCOUNT TICKETS FOR THE IMPERIAL TOMBS OF CHINA The EAC is offering Discount tickets for the Imperial Tombs of China exhibit at the Denver Museum of Natural History. The Exhibit runs through March 16th. Tickets are normally $9.50 with a $1 surcharge. The EAC can get them for $7.60 (kids and adults) with no surcharge. Included with this ticket is also admission to the museum. Ticketholders can then call the museum and make a reservation for the date/time that they would like to visit the exhibit. At that time, a ticketholder can also upgrade the ticket to include the Imperial Tombs IMAX movie for an additional $3.75. Because the EAC has to buy these tickets up front, we need to have a commitment from employees who wish to take advantage of this discount. If you plan to buy some of the discounted tickets to the Imperial Tombs of China exhibit, please let Paula Fisher, paulad@ucar.edu, know how many you need by Tuesday, January 21st. An announcement will be made when tickets are available for purchase at the front reception desks. Stay tuned for further EAC discounts at the Denver Museum of Natural history! After March 16, they will offer through the EAC a combination ticket to the Denver Museum of Natural history for $7.20 (adults, children and seniors should be slightly less), which will include admission to the museum, the planetarium, and the IMAX theater. These tickets will be good for one year. Watch for the next EAC announcement! ************************************************************************ EAC SPONSORED1997 UCAR/NCAR/UOP T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST All UCAR/NCAR/UOP staff and family members are cordially invited to submit entries for the 1997 T-shirt Design Contest. The deadline to enter is January 31, 1997. The design concepts are wide open but must represent the institution, including the words "UCAR/NCAR/UOP" and the year. Graphics/drawings may be color or black-and-white. This is an opportunity to express those latent artistic talents or express your hidden graphics expertise. Submissions are accepted in hard copy only, hand or electronically generated. First prize, in addition to seeing your design on millions of shirts, is $50; second prize is $25. First through third place will also receive a free t-shirt. Submit entries to Willie Haynes or Christine Shields of the EAC. ************************************************************************ DIRECTORY CHANGE Room Ext.
