The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) has adopted
a new logo and developed basic guidelines for its consistent use.
The new identity system creates a distinctive signature on all NCAR
communications that reflects an image consistent with the reputation
NCAR enjoys in the field of scientific research. The new logo and
identification system will unify NCAR's various divisions, groups,
and programs under one common banner.
These guidelines, while focusing primarily on printed applications,
also apply to all other forms of the logo, from on-line applications
to gift shop merchandise. All should follow these basic guidelines.
These Basic Identity Guidelines describe
the components of the identity program and provide examples of printed
materials. For detailed specifications for applications such as
stationery and business cards, see
the Production Standards (PDF).
Color
Color is a basic element of NCAR's new look and must be applied
consistently. With variables between process and spot colors as
well as coated and uncoated stocks, color consistency must be closely
monitored. Always match printed colors to the color bars provided
in this manual, adjusting standard ink colors if needed.
The four-color logo is the preferred combination to use whenever
possible. Other standard color combinations are shown in the examples
on the overleaf. Exceptions to nonstandard colors for special applications
must be approved by the Imaging and Design Center.
Ink Specifications
The four standard colors used
in the logo are referred to as NCAR Deep Blue, NCAR Solar Orange,
NCAR Basic Blue, and black. Use only the standard NCAR ink colors
in printing. (In lieu of NCAR Deep Blue use PANTONE® 541, for
NCAR Solar Orange use PANTONE 164, and for NCAR Basic Blue use PANTONE
2935. The colors shown throughout these guidelines have not been
evaluated by Pantone, Inc. for accuracy and may not match the PANTONE
Color Standards. Consult current PANTONE publications for accurate
color. PANTONE® is the property of Pantone, Inc.)
