Where's Shelby? Enjoying herself

An ever-helpful presence at the Mesa Lab and one of NCAR's most familiar faces, Shelby Pillow (at left with her husband, Paul Pillow), has retired after eight years at the ML reception desk. Shelby was toasted by colleagues at her retirement party on 19 May. Among the guests was Melanie Bruner, who has filled in for Shelby in the past and now staffs the front desk from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. According to Shelby, the question she most often found herself answering at the ML desk was "Where's the women's room?" Things are different for Melanie: thus far, she says, the most common question she's gotten among puzzled staff is "When is Shelby coming back?" Actually, Shelby and her husband have just moved to Greeley. •BH
