Subsidized? Not exactly . . .

In the last issue of Staff Notes Monthly, we interviewed Food Services employee David Neale. In that article we referred to the NCAR cafeteria as a subsidized facility. In fact, all cafeteria expenses for food, supplies, small equipment, and labor are supported by revenues from breakfast and lunch. Special-function catering for both internal and external groups also contributes to the break-even status.

To help the cafeterias stay solvent, Dave and his colleagues ask you--nay, implore you--to bring in those dishes, trays, or silverware loitering in your office. People frequently take food to their work space and forget to return the paraphernalia. Each item costs, and the cafeteria appreciates your thoughtfulness in returning what's theirs (and their customers', in the larger sense). •BH
