The NCAR mesa notched its first bear sighting of the year on 5 June. Paychek, the mascot of Community Shares of Colorado, showed up in the ML cafeteria to help recognize UCAR/NCAR/UOP as 1997's Boulder County Employer of the Year. Out of dozens of institutions contributing to Community Shares in Boulder County, we registered the highest percentage increase in staff donations from 1995 to 1996. Accepting the award was Susan Montgomery-Hodge, the coordinator of the in-house campaign for Community Shares/United Way and the executive assistant to the UCAR president. Susan was joined by Bob Roesch, Human Resources director. Paychek was portrayed by Steve Ehredt, director of the Colorado Youth Program. One of the newest charities in Community Shares, CYP sponsors a summer camp in Boulder County for low-income youth. Community Shares and United Way are the two options by which staff contribute to local and regional nonprofits through workplace deductions. Each year we donate tens of thousands of dollars to charitable organizations through the joint program. The 1997 campaign begins in the fall. •BH |
