A gallery of graphic achievement

As a part of a restructuring of the department, several positions in Graphic Services were eliminated in April. Two other staff reductions were made last August. An all-staff reception was held at the Mesa Lab on 21 June in honor of the staff whose positions were eliminated. In their many years of service, they provided valuable graphic and photographic support to hundreds of NCAR and UCAR staff. They are: Justin Kitsutaka, former manager of Graphic Services, whose career at NCAR spanned nearly 31 years; graphic illustrators Lee Fortier (who joined NCAR in 1968), Wil Garcia (1966), David McNutt (1988), Barb Mericle (1967), and Mike Shibao (1969); and photographers Bob Bumpas (1965) and Curt Zukosky (1989). •BH

Above are three of the award-winning institutional reports designed by former Graphic Services staff. They include the 1992 NCAR Annual Report, designed by Barb Mericle; the 1991 UCAR Corporate Report, designed by Mike Shibao; and a 1992 brochure for the Atmospheric Chemistry Division, designed by Wil Garcia.

From tropical warmth to polar chill, Bob Bumpas photographed NCAR field projects and their settings around the world.
Among the noteworthy achievements of photographer Curt Zukosky was a series of dramatic photos taken during the catastrophic Midwest flooding in the summer of 1993.

David McNutt came up with the design for this operations summary produced by the Office of Field Project Support. Fellow illustrator Lee Fortier produced the logo for the Transportation Alternatives Group, which appears elsewhere in this issue.
