OIES Dissolved as of 1 October Because the infrastructure to do so is now in place within the federal government and the National Academy of Sciences, the role of UCAR's Office for Interdisciplinary Earth Studies (OIES) as a provider of services and advice to the U.S. Global Change Research Program has been substantially reduced. As a result, the office has been discontinued and the remaining responsibilities reassigned within UCAR. OIES director Tom Wigley has been appointed as a senior scientist jointly affiliated with NCAR and the Walter Orr Roberts Institute. He will continue to fulfill current OIES commitments through 1995. Paula Robinson will be joining the staff of the Joint International Climate Projects/Planning Office (JICP/PO), while Lisa Butler and Stacy Long are being reassigned to the Roberts Institute. Next Monday, 3 October, the staff will move from their UCAR North office, with Paula joining JICP/PO in UN suite 100 and Tom, Lisa, and Stacy moving to ML room 259. No phone numbers will change. Diane Ehret has moved to Vancouver, Canada, and will be completing her OIES work from there. With funding from the Electric Power Research Institute, Tom will be developing a program to continue the work of the Model Evaluation Consortium for Climate Assessment, directed towards providing climate and climate impacts modeling results of immediate value to the industrial and policy communities. More details on this project will appear at a future time. -- BH
