Other Changes in UCAR Communications Along with Staff Notes, other publications produced by UCAR Communications (formerly part of the Information and Education Outreach Program) are undergoing changes to make them more useful and relevant. The UCAR Newsletter will be most affected (see below). A memo with more details on these revisions and the rationale behind them is being sent to division and program administrators from UCAR vice president for corporate affairs Harriet Barker. For further information, please consult a copy of this memo or contact UCAR Communications, ext. 8600. Beginning this fall, the UCAR Newsletter will, like Staff Notes, be split in two. A new print publication, the UCAR Quarterly, will be devoted to more comprehensive coverage of multi-institution research, education programs, government policies affecting research, and other developments of interest to the entire UCAR community. The Quarterly will also be available on Gopher and the World Wide Web. Items that require timely dissemination will be issued by a new e-mail news service, UCARline, designed for readers outside UCAR. UCARline will include a monthly calendar, announcements, new publications, and UCAR postdoctoral appointments. It also will carry weekly job openings, selected text from UCAR publications, and other items of interest to the community at large. Current subscribers to the UCAR Newsletter will automatically receive the new UCAR Quarterly. If you aren't on the mailing list and would like to be, contact Milli Butterworth, ext. 8600, e-mail butterwo@ncar.ucar.edu. Anyone on the Internet may subscribe to UCARline by sending an e-mail "subscribe ucarline" (without quotation marks) in the body. Note: All current subscribers to the e-mail version of Staff Notes who are not UCAR staff will be automatically shifted to UCARline beginning 13 October. --
