In addition to monetary support, there are many opportunities for you to provide volunteer service, ranging from a one-time commitment of just a few hours to a three-year commitment on a board of directors. The Volunteer Connection has been matching volunteers with nonprofit organizations in Boulder County for 25 years by using information from registration forms to match a volunteer's interests, skills, and time availability with opportunities in the community. The Volunteer Connection currently works with over 270 nonprofit groups and has thousands of positions available at any one time. These can be found under headings such as Environment, Recreation, Arts, and Culture. They may include helping someone with reading, providing transportation, working with animals, providing clerical assistance, working with small children or seniors, assisting with fund raising, and increasing community awareness of an organization or activity. Volunteers are involved with events that include the Colorado Dance Festival, Boulder County AIDS Project, Community Food Share, Walk for Humanity, te Colorado Shakespeare Festival, and Boulder Bike Week. If you are interested in learning about some of these opportunities, you can get more information by contacting the Volunteer Connection at 444-4904. Or, if you prefer, contact either of the United Way cochairs, Rachel Ames (ext. 8377) or Kay Miloshevich (ext. 8472), to request a volunteer registration form. This form is to be returned to the Volunteer Connection after completion. The information you provide will be used to match your interests, skills, and time with various needs and you then will receive a list of opportunities available. This process does not obligate you; it simply matches you with a list of needs in the community from which you may choose to volunteer. Employees interested in volunteering outside Boulder County may contact the United Way in their local areas for assistance.--Reta Gates, United Way Committee -----This Week's Winners Each week during this year's campaign, the United Way Committee is drawing names for prizes from among pledge forms returned by staff.
