JOIN ESIG FOR NEXT WEEK'S TEACH-IN The spontaneous, discussion-centered format of the 1960s' "teach-ins" will return to NCAR next Wednesday, 27 July. The Environmental and Societal Impacts Group will be presenting a teach-in on the human aspects of the atmospheric sciences from 8:30 a.m. to noon in FL2 room 1001. The sessions are open to anyone who wishes to attend. Each of the topics below will include a brief presentation followed by open discussion. 8:30--9:00 a.m. Introduction to human aspects of the atmospheric sciences. 9:00--9:30 a.m. Usable Science: Congressional buzz-phrase or scientific goal? 9:30--10:00 a.m. How can we determine the value of weather and climate information? 10:00--10:30 a.m. Multidisciplinary research: Linking without sinking 10:30--11:00 Break 11:00--11:30 a.m. Industry's interest in NCAR research 11:30 a.m.--noon What does climate have to do with sustainable-development planning? ESIG is especially interested in getting students and scientists from varying disciplines involved in the teach-in. Its purpose is to highlight the importance of multidisciplinary research in attempts to resolve climate- and weather-related issues of importance to society.
