Summer school—but not the remedial kind
VSP hosted the Heliophysics Summer School for a week in early August. Sponsored by NASA, it was the first session of a three-year program for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The goal is to deepen students' appreciation of the basic science of heliophysics through highly interactive seminars and hands-on working groups, as well as to produce a series of textbooks.  More >

The award is designed to honor companies in Colorado that show dedication to their employees' growth and quality of life, distinguish businesses in the state that attract and retain employees, promote the state's best employment opportunities, and develop resources to help existing companies retain their workforces. More >


Relay Race

Cécile Hannay and Bette Otto-Bliesner, both in ESSL/CGD, are cheered on by spectators during the annual Up-the-Hill relay race on August 24. In keeping with the theme Life's a Picnic, racers had to ferry cups of jelly beans atop umbrellas while using giant inflatable golf clubs to push beach balls uphill. The winning teams were judged by a complex formula involving percentage participation and number of beans preserved, as well as race time.
