“Center Green Idol” coming to Spring Fling

In a new twist on staff entertainment this year, the annual Spring Fling party on May 11 will feature “Center Green Idol,” UCAR/NCAR’s version of the hit TV show “American Idol.” The contest includes emcee “Brian” Seacrest (Brian Bevirt, CISL) and esteemed judges Simon Cowell (Richard Neale, CGD), Paula Abdul (Wendy Abshire, COMET), and Randy Jackson (Tim Barnes, EO).

The Employee Activities Committee (EAC) invites all staff to sing, juggle, pantomime, play the accordion, derive equations, or perform any kind of production, whether solo or group. Unlike “American Idol,” with its scathing criticism, judges on “Center Green Idol” are carefully trained to support and empower all contestants.

Staffers interested in participating are encouraged to sign up with Jennifer Griffin (ext. 1283; jgriffin@ucar.edu) as soon as possible and to watch for announcements in Today@UCAR with more details on the contest.

Emily Cai, daughter of Huaqing Cai (RAL), performs “Mary had a little lamb” karaoke-style with the help of her mother, Yulin Zhang, at the EAC’s annual appreciation party.

Held on March 8, the party was open to all staffers and their family members, honored individuals who have volunteered their time to EAC as committee members or events volunteers. After a presentation ceremony during which UCAR president Rick Anthes praised EAC’s contributions to the organization, a rousing karaoke session ensued, and participants dined on an Italian spread served up by Event Services.

EAC has regular luncheon meetings open to all staff on the third Thursday of each month. For more information, visit the committee’s Web site.
