UCAR named one of the best companies to work for in Colorado
UCAR is on a roll. In 2005, the organization was named Colorado's best nonprofit employer for working parents. Last month, it placed among the top ten companies in the state to work for, period.
The contest, 2006 Best Companies to Work for in Colorado, was sponsored by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Colorado State Council to honor organizations in Colorado that show a dedication to their employees' growth and quality of life. Winners were highlighted in the August edition of ColoradoBiz magazine.
"I am pleased, but not at all surprised, that UCAR ranks highly as a best company in Colorado," says Katy Schmoll, UCAR vice president of finance and administration. "This is truly a fantastic place to work."
UCAR placed sixth in the category for large companies (defined as having more than 200 employees), and was the only nonprofit organization to make the list. The judges praised UCAR's environmental programs, noting in ColoradoBiz that "…UCAR shows its environmental commitment by encouraging its 1,070 Colorado employees to embrace alternative transportation and recycling."
The contest winners were selected and ranked independently of the SHRM Colorado State Council by a national research and consulting organization. Employers and their employees at participating companies across Colorado filled out a survey on workplace practices which was then scored according to a formula similar to those established for national competitions of this kind.
