T-REX
EOL's Mike Susedik (left) and Hal Cole battle a California wind as they set up a mobile integrated sounding system this month during the Terrain-Induced Rotor Experiment, or T-REX. The sounding system measures winds, temperatures, and other weather variables. It is giving researchers insights into severe types of atmospheric turbulence, including mountain waves and rotors, that form over the Sierra Nevada and other mountain ranges. The goal of T-REX is to learn more about the turbulence and better protect aircraft from its effects. For more information about T-REX.
