Commuter of the Year
The City of
Boulder has named SCD’s
Jim Van Dyke as the transit winner in its annual
Commuter of the Year awards. A Littleton resident,
Jim used to drive to Boulder on State Highway 93
until about three years ago. That’s when he
realized he could use his laptop to take care of
some of his work on the bus and the new light rail.
Now, much of Jim’s
nine-hour workday is spent in motion. He leaves
his house at 5:30 a.m. to embark on a two-hour
commute via bus, light rail, UCAR shuttle, and
sometimes his bicycle. He arrives back at his house
about 5:30 p.m.
“I’m really honored,” he says of
his award. “My hope is to continue to not contribute
to our air pollution problems.”
Jim follows in the footsteps
of other staffers who have been honored as Boulder
commuters of the year, including UCAR president
Rick Anthes and COMET’s
Karl Hanzel.
