Joan Wilson (MMM), who describes herself as a "serious amateur photographer," took these photos in 2000; they'll be displayed in a forthcoming FL Library exhibit of Joan's work entitled "NamasteFaces of Nepal." The picture on the left was shot in the southern terrai jungle region of Nepal, where the main modes of transportation along the Rapti River are elephants and dugout canoes; the picture on the upper right is of Mt. Everest, taken from a twin-engine turboprop plane. An aviation expert, Joan went to Nepal as an invited speaker for the 3rd World Aviation Education and Safety Conference in Kathmandu, then stayed to explore the Himalayas and jungle regions. Photography aside, Joan has been involved in discussions about developing Nepal's first flight school. That's been placed on hold because of recent political upheaval in Nepal, but Joan says: "I look forward to future visits to this beautiful country." |
