Carolers from Heatherwood Elementary School (left) kicked off the all-
staff holiday party on 8 December with a mix of traditional and lesser-
heard songs, including one world premiere. In a salute to NCAR, the
Heatherwood Hot Shots set new lyrics to "Jingle Bells." (See full lyrics
below.) Afterward, a few EAC members and friends took to the mezzanine
stage as the UCARolers (right). They performed an intermingled version
of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Frosty the Snowman," arranged
by the EAC's Craig Hartsough, with UCAR president Rick Anthes serving as
mediator between partisans of the two carols. The EAC children's holiday
party, held a few days earlier on the mesa, brought over 200 children
accompanied by parents. The EAC provided toys through the NCAR Science
Store, and a Denver-area magician entertained the crowd. (Photos by
