Reminder: HAO visiting scientist and assistantship applications due 15 January and 15 April One-year and short-term visiting scientist appointments for 1994Š95 are available at NCARÕs High Altitude Observatory (HAO) for both new and established Ph.D. scientists interested in theoretical, experimental, observational, and interpretive research in solar and solar-terrestrial physics and related astrophysics. Scientists with a strong background in physics (experimental or theoretical), who have not previously worked in these scientific areas but are interested in exploring new opportunities, are encouraged to apply. While in residence at NCAR appointees will collaborate with members of the scientific staff and other long-term visitors or continue research projects initiated at their home institutions. One-year appointments usually begin in September or October; visits of six months or less may begin at any time. Summer undergraduate student visitor appointments for 1994 are available for qualified students entering their senior year of college in the fall of 1994 and contemplating graduate studies in solar physics, solar-terrestrial physics, and related astrophysics. Students selected for the program will have an opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of modern scientific research while engaged in carefully tailored studies under the supervision of staff members. Applications for both visiting scientist and summer undergraduate appointments are due by 15 January 1994. Newkirk graduate research assistantships are being offered to those enrolled in university studies leading to the Ph.D. degree. The student must declare his or her intention of working on a Ph.D. thesis in cooperation with an HAO staff member and should be enrolled full- time in a university graduate program having common interest with HAO research goals. Applications for these assistantships are due by 15 April 1994. Applications should be directed to the HAO Visitor and Graduate Student Committee, NCAR. Inquiries may be directed to Peggy Searcy.
