After a national search, atmospheric scientist Mohan Ramamurthy has
been selected as the new director of the
Unidata Program Center within UOP. Ramamurthy has had a long-time relationship
with Unidata, serving on its external Policy Committee and chairing
its Users Committee. He has also served on UCARs University Relations
Committee since 2001.
Ramamurthy received his Ph.D. in meteorology from the University of
Oklahoma and did postdoctoral work at Florida State University. He came
to Unidata from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where
he was a professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences since 1987.
Ramamurthy expects to hold a joint appointment with the NCAR Mesoscale
and Microscale Meteorology Division, enabling him to continue weather-
related research. His interests include mesoscale processes, ensemble
forecasting, information technology, and interactive multimedia instruction
and learning.
We are proud to have Mohan joining UCAR and look forward to
many years of strong leadership at Unidata, says UOP director
Jack Fellows. Unidatas founding director, David Fulker, left to
head up the core integration effort of the National Science Digital
Library, which is being hosted by UOP. Ben Domenico, another long-time
staffer, has served as acting director of Unidata since early 2002 and
will now return to his post as deputy director. Ben has done an
outstanding job leading Unidata during this transition, says Fellows.
Mohan and Ben will make a very strong team.
