TOGA COARE International Data Workshop To facilitate international cooperation and collaboration in the analysis and exchange of data sets from the Tropical Ocean and Global Atmosphere program (TOGA) Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere Response Experiment (COARE), there will be a TOGA COARE International Data Workshop, 2 to 11 August, at the Meteo-France Conference Center in Toulouse, France. The workshop will involve reports and discussions in plenary session interspersed with periods of hands-on data analysis and exchange among smaller formal and ad hoc working groups. A report of the workshop will include assessment of progress toward COARE goals, identification of key scientific issues, and actions required to address those issues. The program will include a first day of data status reports, science updates, and setting of issues by leaders of the COARE science groups; two-day cycles of morning and afternoon working sessions with midday poster (hard-copy and electronic) sessions and a summary plenary discussion for each cycle; and a final day of summary, evaluation, and discussion of workshop issues. Workshop chairs are Stuart Godfrey, CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization); Richard Johnson, Colorado State University; and Dunxin Hu, Academia Sinica, People's Republic of China. The workshop receives support from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Science Foundation, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Cosponsors include Meteo-France, Institut Fran¨ais de Recherche Scientifique pour le Dˇveloppement en Coopˇration, and Institut National des Sciences de l'Univers, within the framework of the French national program on climate dynamics. Sun Microsystems France S.A., Hewlett-Packard France, and Silicon Graphics, Inc., will provide workstations and necessary peripherals and Racal-Datacom S.A. will provide network equipment. UCAR's TOGA COARE International Project Office and the NCAR Research Data Program will provide support for the computing environment and will coordinate the use of COARE data sets and analysis packages at the workshop.
