Reminder: 15 June 1994 is new deadline for receipt of requests for use of NSF observing facilities At its October 1993 meeting, the National Science Foundation (NSF) Facilities Advisory Council (FAC) concluded that the submission schedule for facilities requests to be reviewed by the Observing Facilities Advisory Panel (OFAP) should be identical to that established by NSF for the associated science proposals, which is four months prior to each OFAP meeting. This new target date was recently adopted by the NSF Atmospheric Sciences Division at the suggestion of FAC. The new due dates for requests to be reviewed by the OFAP will take effect with its October 1994 meeting. For that meeting, the due date for receipt of facility requests along with associated science proposals is 15 June, two months earlier than would have been required under the old schedule. The due date for receipt of requests for the April 1995 OFAP meeting is 15 December 1994. The reason for the change is to improve the facility allocation process by ensuring that requests are considered by the OFAP at an advanced stage of NSF peer review of the associated science proposals. Under the new procedure, late requests will be at a serious disadvantage in the competition for facility allocation. Detailed information about where to send facilities requests, as well as other information about NCAR observing facilities, is available on the Internet in the Observing Facilities Gopher, through the NCAR Gopher.
