Community Climate Model now available on Internet The latest version of NCAR's Community Climate Model (CCM2) is now available on the Internet via anonymous FTP. The model includes an optional land-surface model, the Biosphere-Atmosphere Transfer Scheme, or BATS. The package is relatively portable to a variety of UNIX machines, including high-performance workstations and NCARŐs Cray supercomputers. Data sets for integrating the model at both R15 and T42 resolutions are incorporated. Algorithms in this version are identical to the original release of CCM2, but the version is being called CCM2.1 because of functional improvements such as monthly averaging cap-abilities. All those who acquire the CCM2 distribution package are strongly encouraged to register their name, mailing address, and e-mail address, by sending mail to ccm@ncar.ucar.edu. Although most elements of this package have been rigorously tested, there are components that have not been validated in terms of long climate integrations (e.g., the R15 version, which includes the distributed BATS land-surface model). All registered users will be notified via e-mail about any known problems or updates to the distribution package. Additionally, all registered users will be included on CGD mailings concerning CCM- related activities (such as workshops). The most current documentation for the CCM processor is now available on line via Gopher, X-Gopher, and Mosaic. The file address is /North America/ Colorado/NCAR/NCAR-UCAR Gophers/CGD/Processor. There is also a CCM users mail group that includes an open e-mail forum for exchange of information and discussions relating to NCAR's family of CCM tools. To subscribe, send mail to MajorDomo@ncar.ucar.edu with the words "subscribe CCM-users" as the mail text.
