BOULDER -- The Science Wizards at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) will launch weather balloons and illustrate the mysteries of vortices, comets, and chaos as NCAR presents Super Science Saturday at the Mesa Lab. This year's free public event for students, teachers, and families combines the world of Harry Potter with Halloween fun from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27. Treats include live demonstrations, game workshops, and a slide show of scientific wonders captured in photography. NCAR's Mesa Lab sits above Boulder at the west end of Table Mesa Drive.
Throughout the day, wizard activity tables will offer opportunities to handle creepy bugs, build model hovercraft, and more. The hands-on exploration is hosted by Collage Children's Museum, NCAR, Rocky Mountain Wildlife Conservation Center, Science Quest, University of Colorado Science Discovery, and Wild Bear Science School.
NCAR's other exhibits and art galleries at the Visitor Center will be open to the public as usual. The NCAR Science Store will also be open, featuring science kits, books for all age levels, and unique NCAR-themed items. Lunch and snacks will be on sale in the cafeteria.
For more information, contact UCAR/NCAR Education and Outreach at 303-497-1185. The full schedule of Super Science Saturday events is posted at on the Web.
Funded by Friends of UCAR and a grant from the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, Super Science Saturday is a day of activities designed to promote public science literacy and enrich the science experiences of area students and teachers.
NCAR's primary sponsor is the National Science Foundation. NCAR is managed by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR), a consortium of 66 universities offering Ph.D.s in atmospheric and related sciences.
