Permission to Publish Policy
Permission to examine material in the Archives, including material available on the web, is not authorization to publish. Photocopies of material are for research use only and does not imply authorization to publish or permission to place copies in another repository. Researchers who wish to quote, reproduce or publish material from the Archives must complete and sign a Request for Permission to Publish form.
The Archives can grant permission to publish materials for which it holds the copyright, and these include:
- Printed materials published by UCAR / NCAR
- Records created on behalf of UCAR / NCAR
- Materials in manuscript collections for which the donor has given copyright to UCAR / NCAR
The Archives is unable to conduct copyright searches and cannot advise researchers on the application of copyright law. The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) does not allow us to grant permission to publish materials we do not clearly own. It is the researcher's responsibility to determine the ownership of copyright and secure permission to publish.
For permission to publish, please write to Diane Rabson, Archivist, UCAR / NCAR Archives. Please submit requests by regular mail (P.O. Box 3000, Boulder, CO 80307), FAX (617.258.7305) or email (archives@ucar.edu). Please be specific about what records you would like permission to publish.
