This historical site from the year 2000 is a celebration of over 40 years of scientific accomplishments since the founding of UCAR and NCAR in 1960. For more updated information, visit the UCAR home page and Our Research section.

The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) and the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) were founded in 1960 to advance understanding of the earth system.  Working with universities in North America and across the globe, UCAR and NCAR are part of an international team that studies the atmosphere and all that affects it, from solar flares to ocean currents to microscopic air flow.

From late 1999 through the fall of 2000, UCAR and NCAR sponsored a wide range of events to celebrate 40 years of discovery and partnership.
